UCI REGULATIONS

The latest version of the UCI technical regulations can be downloaded HERE - "Clarification of the UCI Technical Regulation".
Articles 1.3.013 and 1.3.023 relate to cockpit set up. From the 1st of January 2023 a new set of regulations will be implemented.

Riders will now be categorised depending on 1) their saddle position relative to the vertical plane of the BB and, 2) their height. Rider categories are determined by the following:

CATEGORY 1 - rider height less than 180cm and nose of the saddle is >50mm behind the vertical plane of the BB.
CATEGORY 2 - rider height is between 180-189.9cm and nose of the saddle is >50mm behind the vertical plane of the BB.
CATEGORY 3 - rider height is 190cm or greater and nose of the saddle is >50mm behind the vertical plane of the BB.
NON-CATEGORY - any height rider with the nose of their saddle less than 50mm behind the vertical plane of the BB.

CATEGORY 1 - riders are allowed 800mm from BB to extension tip and 100mm mid-point of the armrest to the extension tip.
CATEGORY 2 - riders are allowed 830mm from BB to extension tip and 120mm mid-point of the armrest to the extension tip.
CATEGORY 3 - riders are allowed 850mm from BB to extension tip and 140mm mid-point of the armrest to the extension tip.
NON-CATEGORY - riders are allowed 750mm from BB to extension tip and 100mm mid-point of the armrest to the extension tip.

Please note BB to extension tip measurements are measured horizontally and mid-point to extension tip measurements are measured vertically. All accessories are included in these dimensions.

If you intend to use either category 2 or category 3 banding you must complete the UCI online application form. This can be found HERE - "UCI list riders category 2 and category 3".

Other key points to be aware of:

  • Armrests must be two pieces. Each individual piece must be no greater than 125mm x 125mm x 85mm in size.
  • Armrest angle must be no greater than 30 degrees.
  • Measured horizontally the distance from the leading edge of your armrest to your extension tip must be a minimum of 180mm.
  • If the extensions are joined by part the maximum cross section can be no greater than 80mm. This is either a bridge piece used in a dual riser stack system or the bridge piece upon which the two extensions are mounted in a mono riser stack system.
  • Basebars must be a minimum of 350mm measured from outside edge to outside edge.
